The Story · Jonathan Krywicki
It started with a screwdriver.

Jonathan Krywicki, Melbourne
01 · The screwdriver
As a kid I pulled apart every piece of electronics I could get my hands on. I almost never got them back together. But I had to know what was going on inside. That part never switched off.
The first thing I truly loved was a Palm Pilot. I had one of the first in the country, and I ended up behind the counter of a store selling them. Looking back, that's where it clicked: the technology that matters isn't the impressive kind. It's the personal kind, the kind that quietly organises your life.
02 · The homes
In 2004 I started Mobion, my first business, designing technology into people's homes before "smart home" was a term anyone used. Then almost eleven years at Urban Intelligence, building some of the most luxurious homes in Melbourne into intelligent ones, working with architects, builders, and some of the wealthiest families in the country.
Here's what that level teaches you. When someone builds their dream home, they don't want to see the technology. They don't want to operate it. It has to be complex underneath and simple to live with, and if the family needs a manual, you haven't finished.
03 · The proving ground
Along the way I did a master's in entrepreneurship and innovation, founded a startup at a startup weekend, with carsales.com.au acquiring the technology, launched Samsung SmartThings into the Australian market for RACV, and helped build Smart Spaces, a new business inside Optus.
04 · The moment
Then everything changed in one week. I was made redundant, and ChatGPT launched.
I prompted it for the first time and got output that was actually good. The real moment was voice, talking to it, working at the speed of my thought. I realised the thing I'd spent twenty years installing in the country's most expensive homes (technology that quietly does the heavy lifting so people can just live) was about to become available to every single person.
So I went all in.
05 · Now
Now I build with AI every day, write Future Human, and teach what I learn to anyone trying to get their head around it. Same discipline as the homes: complex underneath, simple to live with. Different material.
